Reading a book requires the ability to pay attention over a period of time without becoming distracted. As reading requirements become more advanced in the older grades, sustained attention is challenged by chapter books and reading comprehension. Activities to Improve Sustained Attention-Word search- cross out all letter a’s, etc. carve attention and WM into their basic components to allow a more methodological comparison. For this reason a separate section is devoted to each WM process. Within each section, the interaction between attention and WM processes is discussed separately for central and visuospatial attention. Sections III and IV will focus on the relationship of.

Four sections focus on specific forms of control: of visual attention, of perception-action coupling, of task-switching and dual-task performance, and of multistep tasks. The other three sections extend the interdisciplinary approach, with chapters on the neural substrate of control, studies of control disorders, and computational simulations.

The contributions to this volume, the sixteenth in the prestigious Attention and Performance series, revisit the issue of modularity, the idea that many functions are independently realized in specialized, autonomous modules.

Although there is much evidence of modularity in the brain, there is also reason to believe that the outcome of processing, across domains, depends on. Summary In the first meeting of the Association for the Study of Attention and Performance was held in the Netherlands to promote the emerging science of cognitive psychology.

This volume is based on the most recent conference, held in Israel thirty years later. The focus of the conference was the interaction between theory and application.
